8 Different Kinds of Filter Membranes

As a supplier of membrane filtration products, HAWACH is an enterprise integrating R&D, sales, and production. It is committed to providing various products and solutions in the process of filtration, separation, and purification, and can provide system design and complete sets for users in different industries. Equipment manufacturing, membrane module supply, and filtration technical support services

MCE filter membrane
The MCE filter membrane features high porosity, a good retention effect, and high-cost performance. It is not resistant to organic liquid and strong acid and alkali solutions. It can be applied to the filtration of sterilization and degranulation in experiments and small production processes as a laboratory consumable; Determination of coliform bacteria in water; Research departments such as somatic cell hybridization and mitochondrial complementation prediction hybrid vigor research; analysis and determination of particulate and oil intolerant in solution, and determination of water pollution index; sterilization of heat-sensitive drugs (insulin ATP, coenzyme A, and other biochemical preparations), etc.

PES filter membrane
Polyethersulfone (PES) microporous membrane has natural hydrophilic properties. Compared with other membrane varieties, the PES membrane has very good water wettability, so the PES membrane has higher water flux. PES membranes exhibit very low protein adsorption capacity and are widely used in filtration and clarification in food, medicine, and other fields.

HAWACH’s PES membrane is produced by a unique process, with a super-asymmetric membrane pore structure, and under the same pore size, it has a higher water flux than other membranes. The low protein adsorption properties of PES membranes make them very suitable for the preparation of biological samples. PES has a large flux and low protein adsorption. It features high strength, high flow rate, low extractable, and low protein adsorption, and its particle retention rate is >99.99%. For the sterilization, we can choose high-temperature steam sterilization, ethylene oxide sterilization, and gamma sterilization.

The following are the main applications:
①Medicine: biological and serum filtration, terminal filtration such as large-scale infusion of antibiotics, intravenous injection.
②Food: terminal filtration of beverages, wine, etc.
③Ultrapure water terminal filtration
④ Routine filtration and sterile filtration

PVDF filter membrane
The PVDF membrane needs to be pretreated before use. It is featured by high mechanical strength and toughness, fungal resistance, high wear resistance, high permeation resistance to gases and liquids, good thermal stability and flame retardant, low smoke, as well as chemical corrosion resistance, and oxidation resistance. It is a hydrophobic membrane, with a thin texture, and fast flow rate, which does not absorb moisture and is easy to maintain a constant weight. It can be repeatedly autoclaved and sterilized without changing its performance. After alcohol treatment, it becomes a hydrophilic membrane.

The following are the main applications:
①Improve the reagent level and remove particles in solvents such as alcohols, acids, alkanes, aromatic hydrocarbons, halogenated hydrocarbons, etc.
② Purification of suspended particles in the air and air sterilization in the fermentation industry
③ Purification of insoluble in oil and gravimetric analysis of solid particles
④Separation and purification of non-specific proteins
⑤Concentration of aqueous solution, separation, and recovery of chemical substances

Nylon filter membrane
Nylon membranes have highly consistent pore size and distribution and are especially suitable for applications requiring a low charge, with 0.22um and 0.45um pore sizes available. It has high mechanical strength and chemical resistance; a high protein binding capacity. Nylon is resistant to alkali and organic liquids and is naturally hydrophilic. It is often used for liquid clarification and sterilization and particle filtration; Filtration of photoresists in the electronics industry; and filtration of various solvents and liquid medicines.

PTFE filter membrane
PTFE has strong acid and alkali resistance and has both hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties. It’s suitable for clarification filtration of hydrophilic strong acids and alkalis, filtration of high-temperature liquids, and filtration of special chemical reagents; Hydrophobic air and gas clarification filtration

CN and CA filter membrane
CN Strong adsorption to biological macromolecules such as proteins. It can be used for bacterial culture, bioengineering, biochemical analysis, etc. medical research and diagnosis; DNA-RNA hybridization experiment and verification; Do liquid scintillation determination, ultra-clean preparation of radioactive tracersElectrophoresis, trace element analysis, etc.

Cellulose acetate membranes (CA) are mainly used for the filtration of aqueous solutions, with high flow rate and thermal stability, and very low adsorption. CA has low protein adsorption and is suitable for filtration of low molecular weight alcohols and oil solutions; Analysis and determination of special ingredients in scientific research. The 0.2um membrane is very suitable for the filtration of aqueous solutions, buffers, serum, and culture medium. The 0.45um membrane is very suitable for the HPLC mobile phase method. It is more difficult to obtain published results on membrane adsorption, which is related to the material filtered, the conditions of filtration, and the assay method employed, and the membrane being assayed has not been preliminarily removed.

PP filter membrane
PP acid and alkali resistance, abrasion resistance, impact resistance, uniform distribution of micropores, large filtration area, good water permeability, widely used in injection bottle washing, medicinal liquid, medicinal wine, oral liquid, beverage, daily water, wastewater, air filtration, etc.
